Priyanka Chopra is set to be part of an exciting new cinematic project as she steps into Mira Nair’s upcoming biographical drama ‘Amri’, based on the life of iconic painter Amrita Sher-Gil. The film, which has been generating quiet buzz, brings together art, history, and storytelling on a global canvas. While the makers have kept major details under wraps, it is understood that Chopra’s role, though brief, plays a meaningful part in the narrative.According to Mid-Day, reports suggest that ‘Amri’ will trace Sher-Gil’s journey across Hungary, India, and France, capturing different phases of her life. “The film aims to present the painter’s life across Hungary, India, and France. There was a specific part for which Mira had approached Priyanka last year, and she shot for it last week,” a source revealed. The actor reportedly traveled from Hyderabad, where she was wrapping up ‘Varanasi’, to Amritsar to film her portions over two days.

Who Was Amrita Sher-Gil?

Amrita Sher-Gil (1913–1941) was one of the pioneers of modern Indian art, known for blending Western techniques with Indian subjects. Born in Budapest to a Sikh father and Hungarian mother, she later moved to India, where her work began reflecting the realities of Indian life. Her paintings often portrayed women, rural communities, and themes of identity with striking emotional depth.Sher-Gil achieved global recognition early, becoming the youngest and only Asian artist to win a gold medal at the Paris Salon in 1933.
