Ranchi: The police would further intensify operations against drug abuse in Ranchi, with the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rakesh Ranjan instructing his subordinates to start a proactive campaign against the drug peddlers and their associates.During a review meeting on Sunday evening, the SSP directed that police stations should conduct joint operations against drug sales and purchase. He said that the drug nexus and the hotspots should be identified. He also asked the superintendents of police (SPs) to submit proposals for imposing crime control act against persons accused under the NDPS Act.Police said that the intensified campaign would start in the police stations with a history of large-scale arrest of criminals, including Kotwali, Sukhdevnagar, Dhurwa and Jagannathpur.Police said that a new element of the campaign would be frequent operations at the hotspots without waiting for inputs. Besides, police would also carry out house searches of suspicious persons for drugs recovery.“The campaign would be carried out in public places, temples, sports grounds, parks and other places to prevent gathering of the addicts. A strict vigil would be kept on the persons accused under NDPS act, but out on bail. All the superintendents of police must supervise the drive on a daily basis,” the SSP said.Cannabis, opium, brown sugar, heroin, codeine-based cough syrup and tablets are on sale in the state, particularly in urban areas like Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Seraikela.
