Patna: Already in the eye of storm for his derogatory remarks towards women in politics, Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan aka Pappu Yadav on Wednesday sparked further row when he told the reporters that he tore away and threw into the dustbin the notice served to him by the Bihar State Women Commission (BSWC).The BSWC, while taking suo motu cognizance of his remark, had served him the notice asking why his Lok Sabha membership should not be cancelled.Apparently mocking the BSWC notice, Yadav on Wednesday said he tore the notice and threw it into the dustbin. “Notice ko raddi ki tokari mein fenk diya (I threw the notice into the dustbin),” Yadav, who was elected as an Independent candidate from Purnia Lok Sabha seat, said. Stating that the Lok Sabha Speaker is his sole guardian, the Purnia MP said he would respond only when any notice comes from the Speaker.Taking a dig at the BSWC notice, Yadav further questioned the role of the women’s rights body in several incidents of sexual assault reported in Bihar in recent months. “A NEET student was killed after rape in Patna, attempts were made to rape a woman in Nalanda in full public view and several incidents of sexual assault were reported from Muzaffarpur, Purnia and other districts. What has the BSWC done in those cases?” Yadav asked.“I asked about the status of women in politics, citing reports from the ADR and National Election Watch. We didn’t mention any names,” he said.Yadav’s remarks drew bitter reactions from Mokama strongman heavyweight leader and JD(U) MLA Anant Singh, who asked the former to explain how his wife Ranjeet Ranjan entered into politics before passing comments on the entire women community. “Pappu Yadav has gone mad. His wife is also a leader. He (Pappu) should first explain how his wife became the leader and then should pass comments on other women,” Singh said on Wednesday. The Congress too reacted sharply to this remarks. “None holds the right to pass such comments. The people must refrain from passing such childish remarks,” Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh told reporters in Patna.
