Sennheiser Profile Wireless microphone update brings Bluetooth connectivity: All details

Sennheiser has rolled out a firmware update for its Profile Wireless microphone system. The latest update will enable Profile Wireless microphone system users to connect their compatible devices via Bluetooth. The update, version 5.0.0, lets users connect the clip-on microphone directly to smartphones, tablets and laptops without needing the receiver. This change is meant to make recording setups easier, especially for mobile creators. The update is available for Profile Wireless systems with one channel and two channels and is compatible with Bluetooth LE Audio (with the LC3 codec) and Bluetooth Classic for broader compatibility. The firmware can be downloaded from the company’s official product page.

Sennheiser Profile Wireless firmware update brings Bluetooth connectivity: What’s changing

With firmware version 5.0.0, users can pair the Profile Wireless clip-on mic directly with supported devices via Bluetooth LE Audio or Bluetooth Classic. This enables a more compact setup by removing the need for a receiver between the microphone and the recording device.“The free firmware update unlocks new possibilities, enabling creators to eliminate the receiver between the Profile Wireless clip-on mic and their mobile phone. This clears the smartphone connector for other usage and makes the set-up as compact as possible,” Hendrik Millauer, product manager at Sennheiser, said. The clip-on microphone can also be used with an external lavalier mic for a more discreet recording setup. When an external mic is connected, the built-in microphone is automatically disabled.Sennheiser noted that while Bluetooth connectivity improves convenience, using the receiver remains important for higher audio quality. Millauer said, “For highest audio quality, the Profile Wireless receiver is a must. LE Audio with LC3 will provide creators with good audio quality and latency for any recording where ease of use and compactness are paramount. With a Bluetooth Classic connection, broad compatibility to smart devices and laptops is given but users will have to sacrifice some of the quality that the future-proof Bluetooth LE Audio offers today.”The company has also updated its online manual to include details about the new Bluetooth mode.
