Student defies vision loss to score 97% and engineering career

NASHIK: In a remarkable display of grit and academic brilliance, Arohi Kadam, a student of Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya, has proved that vision is not a requirement for having a great perspective.Despite being 100% visually impaired due to a surgical complication, Arohi secured a staggering 97% in her SSC examinations. She ranked second in her school.“I was with National Association for the Blind until the Std IV before being admitted to Adarsh School. I express deep gratitude toward my parents, teachers and the writer who accurately transcribed my answers,” said Arohi.A significant portion of her preparation involved her mother’s dedicated guidance. Together, they navigated the complexities of science diagrams and geographical maps through verbal descriptions that she memorized.Driven by a passion for technology, Arohi set her sight on becoming an engineer long back. “While many students avoid science because of its difficulty, I view the challenge as a motivation. I am particularly drawn to computer science, coding and data science. Modern software will serve as a vital tool for me to think and achieve. I am now focused on cracking the JEE,” said Arohi. Her father, Prashant Kadam, emphasized that the family treats her as a normal girl with limitless potential. “We have put the impairment behind us. We are committed to guide her as she chases her dreams,” said Kadam. In all, 15 visually impaired students linked to NAB cleared their Class X examinations with flying colours. While Arohi topped the chart, Sai Derle stood second with 81.60% of marks.NAB president Rameshwar Kalantri, general secretary Gopi Mayur, chairperson Mangala Kalantri, Mukteshwar Munshettiwar, Suryabhan Salunkhe and headmistress Varsha Salunkhe Chakor congratulated the achievers and offered best wishes for future studies.
