Helena Bonham Carter was a big part of ‘The White Lotus’ series. However, after the recent announcement that she officially exited the project, fans were shocked by the news. Coogan, best known for his roles in ‘Around The World In 80 Days’, ‘The Penguin Lessons’, and ‘I’m Alan Partridge’, recently revealed why the show’s creator, Mike White, cast him in the upcoming season and addressed Carter’s exit.

While attending the BAFTA TV Awards recently, the ‘Legends’ actor opened up about his work on ‘The White Lotus’ and why he was cast. He revealed that he admired Mike White for some of his earlier roles and looked forward to working with him.He also addressed Carter’s exit from the show, citing that things went in a “different direction.” After Carter’s exit, Laura Dern has officially been cast to replace her in the show. He further added that “It was like, sometimes you find that something isn’t working the way you want it to, in terms of, like, the character and the dynamic of the whole story. So that was just a mutual decision …”Not only that, but Coogan also revealed that the role had to be completely rewritten from scratch in order to make sense in the coming season of ‘The White Lotus.’

He added, “I always thought I’d love to work with him,” while talking about White and how he enjoyed working with the star. Coogan also opened up about his experience working on the sets of ‘The White Lotus’, sharing that “I think I’ve slotted right in, I’m really enjoying it. He’s quite collaborative. He lets you embellish and improvise, and I’m in my comfort zone.”The production studio also issued a formal statement about Carter’s exit, writing that, “The role has subsequently been reconsidered, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
