Jhansi: A day after police arrested a man involved in an IPL betting racket, police on Wednesday arrested three more who are accused of running a betting racket involving Rs100 crore.Police have also identified eight more accused who are absconding.Presenting the three accused in front of the media, SSP Jhansi BBGTS Murthy said that acting on an information, police and SOG team intercepted an SUV on Kanpur-Gwalior bypass. There were three persons inside who while trying to escape, dashed their vehicle on the police team, injuring two of the officials. Police managed to catch the three accused.They were identified as Shubham Upadhyay, 39, Vijay Wadhwa, 45, and Nitin Agarwal, 44. The three belong to Jhansi and are accused of running a multi-crore betting racket in which others are also involved.During their search, police seized eight mobile phones, one tablet and Rs84,500 in cash apart from Rs50 lakh in various bank accounts which have been put on freeze. Police also seized a few ledgers from the accused which had details of past betting transactions amounting to Rs100 crore.During interrogation it was revealed that the accused had invested their earnings mostly on immovable properties amounting to crores of which a major portion was of Shubham including five plots and two farmhouses.The three accused were sent to jail under judicial custody after being booked under related sections of BNS and Gambling Act.Police further revealed names of eight persons who are part of the same betting racket and are absconding. These included Pappu, Pankaj Rai, Saurabh Likhdhari, Akash Chanchalani, Sumit Sahu, Roshan Mubshi, AshishUpadhyay, all from Jhansi along with Sonu Chadha and Harish Kumar from Kanpur.SSP Murthy said, “We have sent police teams to catch the accused. We are committed to wipe off the entire betting syndicate from this district for which extensive investigation and action is going on.”
