US President Donald Trump on Friday called himself “The Peace President,” even as he issued fresh warnings of military action against Iran if ongoing negotiations fail. The post, shared by the “Trump War Room” Not Panicans.”The post came as Trump publicly claimed credit for resolving multiple international conflicts. Speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, Arizona, he said he had “settled eight wars,” including tensions between India and Pakistan, and suggested the number could rise to 10 with developments involving Iran and Lebanon. However, even as he projected himself as a broker of peace, Trump struck a more combative tone on Iran. He warned that Washington could escalate militarily if a deal is not reached before the current ceasefire expires next week.“If we don’t do a deal, we will get it in a different form — in a much more unfriendly form,” Trump said, adding that the US naval blockade on Iran would remain in place and that military action could resume if talks collapse. He said negotiations with Tehran would continue over the weekend, reiterating that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remained the top US priority.Trump also pointed to developments in West Asia, including a reported ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon and claims around the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as signs of progress.Iran, however, pushed back on those claims. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said passage through the Strait of Hormuz would remain tightly controlled by Tehran and subject to its authorization, adding that decisions on the waterway would be determined “on the ground, not on social media.”A fresh round of US-Iran talks is expected in Islamabad on Monday, with delegations likely to arrive a day earlier, according to reports.
