RAIPUR: Two minor tribal girls were gangraped by at least four youths in Chhattigsarh’s Surguja district, while there were allegations that the number of accused was much more. A late-night walk home from a wedding turned into a nightmare for four teenage friends, when a group of 12 youths on six bikes allegedly intercepted them on a deserted stretch—two girls managed to flee, while two minors were overpowered who later reported gangrape.All the survivors were 13 and 14-years-old.An FIR was lodged under POCSO Act against four men, yet to be traced. The survivors alleged they were returning from a wedding nearby, on foot, when they were targeted. The incident took place on April 24 and while one girl escaped upon spotting the bikers approaching, the other three were surrounded by the accused. Surguja IG Deepak Jha said, according to the complaints of the survivors to police, four accused dragged one girl to an isolated spot and gangraped her, while another minor girl was taken on a bike to a separate spot. The third girl was pushed to hop on the bike but she managed to jump off and ran into the bushes and disappeared from their sight.The girls somehow returned home early the next morning and were crying inconsolably when women social workers approached and the survivors narrated their ordeal. They were reported to be still in shock, complaining of abdominal pain and were being counseled along with treatment. The girls named the accused to police based on what they heard during the incident and police lodged an FIR. The search to nab the accused was underway.
