BAREILLY: Tanmay Saxena, a Class 8 student whose alertness saved his parents from losing money to cyber fraudsters who tried to digitally arrest them by posing as NIA officers, was felicitated by police in UP on Friday. Senior officers in Bareilly said they are planning to appoint the 13-year-old boy as brand ambassador for their cyber fraud awareness campaign.ADG Ramit Sharma told TOI, “We will also host programs in schools to make other students aware about cyberfraud. The boy told us that he also keenly follows police campaigns against cyberfraud in newspapers.”SSP Anurag Arya added, “Whenever he speaks about any digital campaign, we will amplify it on social media.”The fraudsters had even sent Tanmay’s parents a fake arrest warrant and sought details of their bank accounts, valuables and properties. Having read about such scams in The Times of India a few days ago, Tanmay grew suspicious and persuaded his father to disconnect the video call by switching to flight mode, after which police were informed.Arya said an FIR in the matter has been registered, and all bank accounts of Tanmay’s father, Sanjay Saxena, who runs a bakery, have been frozen so that his money stays safe. “We will arrest the accused soon,” he added.
