Storyline and central conflict in Anne Hathaway starrer

Directed by Michael Showalter, the film follows Lowen Ashleigh, whom Dakota Johnson plays. The plot revolves around a writer hired to complete a successful book series. Its original author, Verity Crawford (played by Anne Hathaway), becomes incapacitated following an accident, which is why Dakota’s character is hired. As Lowen moves into the Crawford home, she becomes closely involved with Verity’s husband, Jeremy, portrayed by Josh Hartnett. Her stay soon takes a disturbing turn.

While settling into the house, Lowen discovers an unfinished manuscript and the document reveals disturbing truths about Verity’s life. The teaser focuses on the discomfort inside the Crawford estate. It also suggests a complex relationship between Lowen and Jeremy. Their bond appears to develop into a romance, but it is clouded by suspicion.Later in a violent and terrifying sequence, Verity, believed to be bedridden, suddenly attacks Lowen. She bites her and draws blood and the teaser ends with a chilling line, “I’m going to take it from you. All of it”.

The ‘Verity’ teaser, premiered at CinemaCon signals a darker tone compared to earlier adaptations of Colleen Hoover’s work. It was unveiled with the caption, “There is no light where we’re going.
