The former Cy Young winner says he is willing to sign a minor league contract for “$0 salary” just for the chance to pitch his way back to the majors. For a player who once landed a $102 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the offer felt less like a negotiation tactic and more like a public challenge directed at every front office in baseball.Bauer, now 35, has spent the last few years outside Major League Baseball after sexual assault allegations from multiple women led to a lengthy suspension under MLB’s domestic violence policy. He has denied all allegations and has never been criminally charged. Teams have still stayed away. So Bauer decided to present what he believes is a no-risk scenario: give him a shot, pay him nothing, and release him immediately if anything goes wrong.

Trevor Bauer laid out the idea on Friday on“Hypothetical: You’re the owner of an MLB team,” Bauer wrote. “I offer to take $0 salary and sign a minor league contract and go to Low A. If the ‘he sucks now’ crowd is right and I get lit up, you cut me, lose $0 and there’s no risk to the big league club.”He kept pushing the point further, addressing concerns about chemistry and public backlash in the same thread.“If the ‘clubhouse cancer’ crowd is right, you see it immediately at Low A and cut me. You lose $0 and there’s no risk to the big league club. If there’s massive negative PR, which we already know there won’t be, you just cut me and move on.”Bauer believes his recent stretch with the Long Island Ducks strengthens that argument. He pointed to sold-out crowds, a recent no-hitter, and the lack of public protests surrounding his appearances in New York.“Where has the negative PR been?” Bauer wrote. “I’m playing in America. In New York of all places. Most ‘hostile’ media market in the United States. Stadiums are sold out when I pitch. There’s no boycotts. No media frenzy. Where is it?”

Bauer has not pitched in MLB since June 2021. Despite reinstatement after his suspension was reduced from 324 games to 194, no franchise has been willing to bring him back.Bauer insists money is no longer the issue.
