Patna: A 28-year-old woman climbed a 200-foot-high mobile tower on Sunday morning in Takiya village under Inayatpur panchayat in Chhapra, threatening to jump unless her boyfriend’s family agreed to their marriage.The woman, a resident of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, had been in a relationship with a 30-year-old man from the village for nearly three years. They met several times in Delhi, where the man works in a private company. She had also posted photos and videos with him, including some showing him applying vermilion to her hair.When the man’s family refused the marriage and asked him to choose between them and the woman, he stopped communicating with her. She reached Chhapra on Saturday evening and, after failing to convince the family, wrote a suicide note holding the man and his family responsible before climbing the tower around 8am on Sunday.From the top, she recorded and posted social media reels stating her demand for marriage and warning she would jump. The videos drew thousands of views and a crowd of over 5,000 people gathered. Police and a fire brigade team reached the spot and tried to persuade her through a microphone, but she refused.After three to four hours, she fainted. A police officer and a tower technician climbed up, gave her water and brought her down safely. Police are counseling both families and have begun an investigation.SHO Nirbhay Kumar said, “The girl is safe. She claimed that they are already married. After counselling, the boy’s family has agreed for their relationship and the boy will also come to his hometown. Ajay is currently in Delhi.”
