Noida: Noida Authority has approved over Rs 34 crore for the repair and upgrade of the four-lane Yamuna Pushta road downstream of Okhla Barrage. Built in 2014, the stretch has deteriorated due to heavy traffic and rain, leading to potholes and safety concerns. Repair work is scheduled to begin in May. Officials said the road will serve as an important alternative to Noida Expressway once commercial operations begin at Noida International Airport in June.According to Noida officials, the embankment separates the residential sectors like 94, 125, 126, 127, 128, 132, 135, etc and areas of Asgharpur, Raipur, Nangla Nangli, Wajidpur, etc from the Yamuna river and safeguards from flood. However, as this road is nearly 12 years old and due to high volume of traffic, it has developed potholes and rough patches.“Due to heavy traffic flow, leakage from the gabion boxes and blockage of the drainage pipe have also led to the formation of potholes. This has made commuting through this road difficult. We have decided to strengthen and upgrade this road, which includes resurfacing, installation of crash barriers, gabion grounding, painting works, etc. Noida Authority has approved a budget of Rs 34.18 crore for this project. The redevelopment will make the commuting smooth on this road,” said AK. Arora, Noida Authority. The Authority will sign an MoU with the irrigation department, which will conduct this redevelopment work from next month. For hundreds of commuters on this stretch, the potholes and dust pollution make the commute a hassle.“There is also roadside debris and this road is not motorable now. This should be repaired at the earliest,” said SK Maheshwari, a resident of Jaypee Wish Town in Sector 128.This road serves as a key backup to the Noida Expressway, which remains heavily congested during peak hours. The 25km-long Noida Expressway, an arterial link between Delhi and Greater Noida, carries traffic from multiple entry points, including the DND Flyway, Chilla border and Kalindi Kunj. During office hours, traffic from adjoining sectors spills onto the corridor, often leading to slow-moving traffic and longer commute times. The 11.2km stretch from Kalindi Kunj to Sector 135 is also set to be redeveloped next month. Noida Authority is drawing up an estimate to upgrade the remaining 15km stretch up to Sector 150, officials said.Noida has also planned to develop an alternate route to Noida Expressway that will connect Chilla elevated road with a Link Road that will later connect to the Pushta road. This alternative route will play a key role in carrying traffic, other than Noida Expressway, officials added.
