YouTube CEO Neal Mohan on bringing livestream multiview feature to TV app: Users will have full control to…

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan recently announced a new update to YouTube TV. The latest update offers users more flexibility in how they watch live content, introducing a “fully customizable” multiview feature. Mohan said users will have “full control to mix and match live streams” and can “build the personalized viewing experience you’ve been asking for.” With this update, viewers can pin up to 4 live streams on a single screen, allowing them to watch multiple channels simultaneously without switching between them.YouTube launched the multiview feature in 2023, initially for curated sports feeds like March Madness. At that point, users could only mix live games in predetermined combinations. The feature was later expanded to include pre-selected streams in other categories such as business, news and weather. Control, however, was still only what the platform provided. In 2025, YouTube began testing a version that allowed users to create their own multiview setups with select non-sports content. The latest update builds on that experiment by removing most of those restrictions and allowing broader customization across live streams.

How YouTube TV’s new livestream multiview feature works and what it means for users

With customizable multiview, users can now create their own viewing setup based on what they want to watch in real time. This means they can follow multiple sports matches, track breaking news across channels, or combine different types of live content in one view. The ability to pin up to four streams turns the screen into a multi-window layout, reducing the need to switch between channels or apps. It also changes how users interact with live television, making it more dynamic and user-driven.The feature will be available to YouTube TV subscribers and to users subscribed to more than 10 genre-specific plans, according to the company.
