The much-awaited trailer of ‘Drishyam 3’ was unveiled in Kochi on Saturday, and the launch event became even more exciting when filmmaker Jeethu Joseph and superstar Mohanlal shared intriguing details about the upcoming thriller. Jeethu Joseph reveals what makes ‘Drishyam 3’ different
Unlike the first two films, where Georgekutty clearly knew who was after him, ‘Drishyam 3’ introduces a new layer of psychological fear and uncertainty. Speaking about the film’s central conflict, Jeethu Joseph explained, “The difference between the first and second parts and the third one is that Georgekutty doesn’t know whether someone is behind him, and if so, who it is.”He further added that the fear this time comes from the unknown, making the tension more intense than before. “In the first two parts, he knew that the police and the dead boy’s family were after him. But in this one, he doesn’t know who it is. I’m not saying there won’t be any elements that will surprise you,” the filmmaker shared.
Mohanlal teasesDrishyam 4 ‘And’Drishyam 5 ‘
While fans are eagerly waiting for ‘Drishyam 3’, Mohanlal hinted that Georgekutty’s journey may not end anytime soon. The actor jokingly, yet seriously, suggested that more sequels could be on the way. “I have asked for Georgekutty to be saved multiple times, but he is still not saved. So you can expect a ‘Drishyam 4’ also,” he said during the event. Mohanlal later clarified that he was not merely joking about future films in the franchise. “This is not a joke. Let people watch the film and let them decide whether we should do a sequel, like four or five,” he added.Interestingly, the actor also revealed that producer Antony Perumbavoor has already discussed ideas for a fifth installment even before work on the fourth film begins. The trailer of ‘Drishyam 3’ hints at Georgekutty battling inner fear and emotional exhaustion after the events of the previous films. Although his family seems to have moved on from the traumatic past, Georgekutty continues to feel haunted by an invisible threat. The promo suggests that someone may still be watching him, and his paranoia might not be unfounded after all. The mystery-driven tone of the trailer has already sparked massive excitement among fans online.
A franchise that became a pan-Indian phenomenon
The original ‘Drishyam’ released in 2013 and quickly became one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest success stories. Its sequel, ‘Drishyam 2’, released in 2021 and continued the franchise’s popularity across India. Both films were remade in several languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Sinhala, Mandarin, and Korean, turning the franchise into a global phenomenon. ‘Drishyam 3’ once again stars Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil reprising their iconic roles. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 21.
