Google says Gemini blocked or removed over 8.3 billion ads globally, 483.7 million in India last year

Google has revealed that Gemini has helped the company in a massive cleanup of the digital advertising space last year, removing over 8.3 billion ads globally. According to the tech giant, during the crackdown in India, its latest AI technology blocked or removed 483.7 million policy-violating advertisements. Google announced these figures in the company’s annual security report, which highlights a shift in the battle against digital scammers. In 2025, Google’s security teams utilized Gemini to analyze hundreds of billions of signals, ranging from account age to complex behavioral patterns. This allowed the system to catch 99% of bad ads before they were ever seen by a user, the company said.Google explains that this has been made possible because unlike older systems that relied on simple keywords, the new AI understands the “intent” behind an ad, making it much harder for bad actors to hide malicious content behind clever wording.

The global impact of these tools includes:

  • 8.3 billion ads blocked or removed.
  • 24.9 million advertiser accounts suspended.
  • 602 million scam-specific ads neutralized.

“Gemini also enables us to process user feedback more efficiently, which helped our teams to take action on more than four times as many user reports in 2025 than in the year prior. That means when a threat does slip through, we can neutralize it quickly. This speed lets our safety experts focus on the complex work that requires human judgment,” Keerat Sharma, VP and general manager, Ads Privacy and Safety.

Google India suspends 1.7 million accounts

India appears to be a key battleground for ad safety because beyond the 483.7 million blocked ads, Google suspended 1.7 million advertiser accounts within the country for failing to meet safety standards. To bolster these efforts, Google has expanded its advertiser verification program, requiring businesses to validate their identities before they can reach Indian consumers. The annual report also notes that scammers are now using generative AI to create deceptive ads faster than ever. However, Google is using the same technology to fight back. By the end of last year, most “Responsive Search Ads” were reviewed instantly at the moment of submission.

AI helping humans work efficiently

Furthermore, the AI has helped human experts work more efficiently, Google says, explaining that the company acted on four times as many user reports compared to the previous year. Not just fast, the AI’s ability to tell the difference between a real deal and a scam led to an 80% reduction in “false alarms”, the company claims.
