MUMBAI: Police investigations in the suspected drug overdose case at a music show in Goregaon (East) that left two MBA students dead have shown that the ecstasy pills were sourced from a major drug supplier and three of the accused persons had financial dealings with his wife.Ten people have been arrested in the case so far. A 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, part of a group of 25 MBA students attending a music concert at an exhibition ground on April 11, popped ecstasy pills and died a day later. A 25-year-old woman was hospitalized after she too popped the drug and took ill. Police have said that the prime accused, Ayush Sahitya, was in touch with a major drug supplier who has been on the run since the offense occurred. Police are questioning Sahitya for leads on this man’s whereabouts. Further, police found that Sahitya and his co-accused, Shubh Agarwal and Vineet Gerelani sent money to the drug supplier’s wife’s account, purportedly from the sale of drugs. In fact, even while the music concert was on, Gerelani sent money to Sahitya’s sister’s bank account. The focus of the investigation is now to probe the money trail. Police investigations have also shown a large volume of financial transactions made between Sahitya, Gerelani, Agarwal and a co-accused, Anand Patel, 10 days before the concert as well as after the event. Investigators are now pouring through bank statements of all the accused to build a strong case against them. On Sunday, police had arrested a security guard from the concert venue, Pradeep Gupta, for letting Sahitya and Gerelani into the event without tickets, reportedly for a bribe. Police are now questioning Gupta to find out if he similarly allowed access to any other individual carrying drugs as well. “The exhibition ground had hired external vendors to handle security and other arrangements. We will summon and question each vendor as it appears from the investigation so far that drugs were supplied at the event in considerable quantity,” said an investigator. On Monday, Sahitya, Gerelani, Agarwal and Patel were produced before a magistrate court at Borivli. Gerelani’s lawyer, Arjun Jeswani, said that his client had already been remanded in police custody thrice, while requesting for judicial custody. Patel and Agarwal’s lawyers, Azad Gupta and Surendra Landge, said analysis of bank documents did not require the physical presence of their clients in police custody. The magistrate court extended the police custody of all four accused till April 23.
