Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal are all set to reunite on screen after nine years. The husband-wife duo worked together in Miley Jab Hum Tum (2008) and later participated in Nach Baliye (2017), will now share screen space in the upcoming vertical microdrama, Qubool Hai.Interestingly, Sanaya says working together now feels much easier than it did during their Miley Jab Hum Tum days. “Mohit and I as individuals were different in terms of our working pace and temperament. But this time, I was pleasantly surprised to see that we were in sync. We have been together for 17 years now and somewhere, we have become like each other. It is easier to work with him now than it was back then. Today, there is a sense of understanding,” she says.Exploring a new formatFor Mohit, the project was appealing not just because it reunited him with Sanaya on screen, but also because of the format itself. “The format looked very interesting and the story looked good, so we thought why not take it up. We haven’t done a vertical microdrama before. It’s a new space and that makes it exciting,” he says.‘The craft was always our passion’Once among television’s popular couples, both actors gradually stepped away from the spotlight over the years. However, Mohit says fame was never the driving force behind his career choices. “Sanaya and I never cared so much about stardom. We just genuinely liked acting. The craft was always our passion,” he shares.Echoing the sentiment, Sanaya says, “I was never someone who got into this industry for fame or stardom. Even when I was very young, I had the understanding that all of this is temporary. Today somebody is relevant, tomorrow they are not. I was working towards the craft. So when work slowed down, of course it sucked because who doesn’t want to wake up every day and do something they love? But did I miss the stardom? No.”‘I didn’t leave TV — creative work left me’Sanaya also clarifies that neither she nor Mohit consciously chose to move away from television. “For both Mohit and me, it has never been about the medium. I didn’t leave TV — creative work left me. The kind of work I was looking for stopped being made. Yes, there were some good shows that happened, but I just wasn’t part of them for whatever reason. I don’t know why people think I turned my back on television because that’s not true at all. Mohit and I just want to do good work. If it comes on TV, great. If it comes through other mediums, we will go there,” she says.
