Tire thieves target parked cars in Gurgaon's Sector 90, residents raise security concerns

Gurgaon: Thieves allegedly stole tires and rims from more than half a dozen parked vehicles in Sector 90 late on Friday night, triggering outrage among residents and renewed questions over police patrolling in New Gurgaon.Several videos surfaced on social media on Saturday showing vehicles outside NewTown Heights society, under the jurisdiction of the Sector 93 police post, resting on bricks with all four wheels missing. Residents alleged the thefts took place barely a short distance from the police post.According to residents, the thieves appeared well prepared and carried out the operation with precision without drawing attention. They allegedly targeted vehicles parked along deserted roadside stretches, lifting them one by one, removing the tires along with the alloy rims, and placing bricks underneath before fleeing.“People came out in the morning and were shocked to see multiple vehicles without tyres,” a local resident said.Another resident said, “Dozens of vehicles have been left on bricks with their wheels removed. Thieves in the societies of Sector 93 and New Gurgaon are removing and taking away entire wheel alloys, including tyres, from vehicles. Residents are gripped by both fear and anger.”Residents demanded night patrolling, installation of additional CCTV cameras at vulnerable points, and stricter checks on suspicious persons and vehicles during late hours.Police said they received information about one of the incidents from residents, though no formal complaint had been filed till Saturday evening.“We have received intimation about one of the incidents from the residents; however, a complaint is yet to be filed,” an officer said.Police teams later reached the spot and began scanning CCTV footage from the sector and nearby routes to identify the accused and trace the vehicle used in the crime.Social activist Lokesh Yadav said, “This is a grim situation in the area; residents are in fear.”
