DMK’s Vasanthavel GR emerges victorious, securing 98471 votes, against AIADMK’s Kumaraguru R, by a margin of 2277 votes. The Ulundurpettai constituency witnessed a high-stakes clash in the 2026 Assembly elections. The DMK fielded GR Vasanthavel, seeking to retain the seat for the party following their 2021 success. He faced a formidable challenge from R Kumaraguru of the AIADMK, a former two-time MLA looking to reclaim his stronghold. The entry of M Sudhakar of the TVK and Logeshwari of the NTK added significant competition, particularly by appealing to the youth and the large agricultural workforce in the region. In the 2021 election, AJ Manikannan (DMK) secured victory with 115,451 votes (47.59% vote share), defeating R Kumaraguru (AIADMK) by a margin of 5,256 votes. In the 2016 election, R Kumaraguru (AIADMK) won with 81,973 votes (36.04% vote share), defeating GR Vasanthavel (DMK) by 4,164 votes in a race where DMDK chief Vijayakanth finished third. Ulundurpettai (Assembly constituency No. 77) is a general segment in the Kallakurichi district. As a major junction and agrarian hub, it remains a vital indicator of political trends in northern Tamil Nadu. The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking actor Vijay’s political debut as a third force across all 234 constituencies.
