NEW DELHI: Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is emerging as a formidable force in Tamil Nadu, with trends suggesting a dramatic rise for the debutant outfit, challenging established players like DMK and AIDMK in the state.According to early data from the Election Commission of India, Tamil Nadu is witnessing a rare three-way contest. According to early trends, Vijay’s party has crossed majority mark and surged past the ruling DMK, with AIADMK on the third spot. However, trends reflected across television networks suggest a far stronger surge for TVK, with projections indicating the party could outperform both the DMK and AIADMK alliances and can potentially form government in the state on its own. This marks a striking departure from pre-poll expectations. Most exit polls had predicted a comfortable return for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance under Chief Minister MK Stalin. Surveys by India Today-Axis My India and Times Now-JVC, however, stood out for forecasting a strong debut for TVK. The Axis My India poll projected TVK winning between 98 and 120 seats, placing it in direct competition with the DMK, which was projected to secure 92–110 seats.His journeyVijay formally launched TVK in 2024, positioning it as a people-centric alternative to Tamil Nadu’s entrenched Dravidian parties.
