Bombay high court dismisses PIL seeking recovery of Mohan Bhagwat's Z-plus security cost; questions plea's intent

NAGPUR: The Bombay High Court on Monday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking recovery of the cost of Z-plus security provided to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, while also questioning the motive behind the plea. The PIL, filed before the court’s Nagpur bench, had claimed that the monthly cost of the security cover—reportedly between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh—amounts to a misuse of public funds and a loss to the state exchequer, arguing that the RSS is not a registered organisation. While dismissing the PIL, a division bench led by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Anil Kilor questioned the motive and intent behind the plea, the petitioner’s counsel said.A detailed order of the court was awaited. The PIL, filed by Nagpur resident Lalan Singh through his counsel Ashwin Ingole, contended that taxpayers’ money is being misused to provide Z-plus VVIP security to a person whose organization is “unregistered”.The petitioner sought recovery of charges from Bhagwat for the top-tier security given to him by the government.(With agency inputs)
